Muscle memory

What is muscle memory?

Muscles don't have memory, which is probably not a big shocker. It is the subconscious mind's memory of your movements.

The subconscious mind remembers every single action you have ever done. This helps your conscious mind repeat actions such as singing.

Don't sing incorrectly

By singing incorrectly you teach your subconscious mind that it is the right way to sing. The muscle memory doesn't have any intelligence.

Because of that you're likely to repeat what you have done the next time you sing. That's the bad part about muscle memory.

That does however not mean that your body will repeat bad technique if you make some mistakes at first or occasionally do something wrong, but do not repeat it!

Repeat what works

If you figure out a way to sing something you should sing it slowly and correctly over and over. This way you learn how to do it.

When that has become the natural way for you to do it, you can increase the tempo.
