How to scream sing

Scream singing is much easier than you think!

..And a lot of people do it because they can't sing cleanly!

But there's a catch here. You shouldn't feel any pain in your throat when screaming!

If you get hoarse or pains in the throat, you need to take a break. You can learn how to scream sing safely, so no need to ruin your voice unnecessarily!

So I can actually sound like I'm being murdered and not feel pain??

Yep! Screaming is natural. We all do it from time to time, and it's rarely painful.

Think about it..

Screaming is a sign of hatred and despair! When you're truly hateful and desperate, screaming doesn't hurt.

But if you don't get any pains from screaming, the first thing you need to scream sing is an..

Exercise for getting PISSED!

First visualize a person you hate intensely.. I mean serious down to the bone kind of hatred!

Or if you're a nice guy or gal with no enemies, you can read up on Hitler's concentration camps.

Imagine sitting in a concentration camp.. And suddenly Hitler strolls right into the room. The reason for all your pain and misery is right there in front of you!

Go ahead.. Visualize it and feel how much you hate this monster!

Get a clear mental picture of him, and scream! Loudly!

You're not at home in front of your laptop! You're standing in front of pure evil!

Don't hold back!

Let go to the hatred!

"Aaaaaaaaaaaah!"

That's a primal scream! What nature equipped us with to use when we get mad at people.

Scream singing vs. screaming

When you know how to do a primal scream you're already half-ways to learning how to scream sing.

Now you need learn how to scream on pitch:

Do the same scream again. But this time hold the note.

Don't worry about being exactly on pitch at first, or you'll end up holding back.

..Which is bad bad bad!

You need to let go.

When you can hold one pitch when screaming, it's time to change notes!

Do a new scream. Just as angry!

Try to move the pitch down a little. Then hold this new pitch. And again, it doesn't matter if the pitch isn't perfect.

When you've got these two pitches going, try another scream. Change between the two pitches continuously.

Then try to scream a melody.

("Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star" comes to mind)

Okay I guess most of you have got some kind of picture of where I'm going. But if you get pains, take a break and read on..

If scream singing hurts

A mistake loads of screamers make, is to “hold back”. They don't let go and scream whole heartedly.

This causes a lack of breath support, which in turn causes massive tenseness.

You can learn breath support, but to scream passionately it's best not to think too much about the technical stuff.

That's it! Rock on!
